"We boys have to take the world back" - this is what Emil Dreesen believes after his return from the First World War. He wants to leave traumas from the trenches and a heavy debt behind him. Unlike his nationalist father Fritz, who rebelled against the French occupiers in his Rheinhotel Dreesen, the hotelier's son Emil wants to come to terms and reconcile with the French.
For the junior manager, the focus is on the future: in order to attract new guests, the 21-year-old, with the support of his younger sister Ulla, focuses on culture and entertainment. He has the support of his fun-loving grandmother Adelheid, who owns the hotel. Emil can also rely on his friend Robert from the war days. The two share a secret that could be their undoing at any time... (Das Erste)
